📚 Oregon Battle of the Books (OBOB)
Get ready to… BATTLE! 🏆
Oregon Battle of the Books (OBOB) is a statewide reading program that encourages students to read, broaden their reading interests, strengthen comprehension, and develop teamwork skills.
Who Can Participate?
- OBOB is open to Durham students in grades 3–5.
- Students participate on teams of 4 students, with the option of 1 alternate.
- Students read assigned books and prepare together for trivia-style battles.
How It Works
- Students read at least 4 of the 16 OBOB titles.
- Teams meet regularly with their Team Coach to discuss books and practice questions.
- During battles, teams compete against one another by answering questions about the books.
- Durham holds a school tournament, and the winning team may advance to the OBOB Regional Tournament.
How Families Can Help
Parents and caregivers can support OBOB by:
- Volunteering as a Team Coach
- Volunteering at OBOB meetings and battles
- Helping students access books, ebooks, and audiobooks
- Reading and discussing books together
- Practicing title/author flashcards and OBOB questions
- Helping students attend team meetings
📖 Finding the Books
OBOB books may be available through:
- Durham Elementary Library
- Sora ebooks and audiobooks
- Tigard Library
- Tualatin Library
- Purchase through your preferred bookseller
🗓️ OBOB Season
The OBOB season generally runs October through March, with school-level battles taking place in February and regional competition in early March.
